A Strong Foundation: Meet Mike O'Brien
Mike O’Brien (GRI, CRB BROKER, OWNER) founded O’Brien Realty in 1980. With 5 locations throughout the Southern Maryland region, and over 30 years of service, O’Brien Realty is the largest and most successful locally owned real estate company in the Southern Maryland region. In just five years, our company was awarded the prestigious honor of being one of the top “100 Firms” nationally.
Mike is a graduate of the Relators Institute (GRI) and is a Certified Residential Broker (CRB). He served in the U.S. Army, and is a decorated Vietnam Veteran. He attended St. Mary’s College Of Maryland, and graduated with honors from the University of Maryland, with degrees in economics and accounting.
Mike has continued to support St. Mary’s College Of Maryland, formally serving on the Board of Trustees. In 2010, his contributions were recognized with the naming of The Michael P. O’Brien Athletics and Recreation Center Arena He is currently serving on the SMCM Foundation Board of Directors and Joint Investment Advisory Committee (JIAC).
Mike currently serves on the Southern Maryland Association of Realtors (SMAR) Strategic Planning Committee and helped create the SMAR Strategic Plan for 2022-2025

Calvert Marine Museum’s Waterside Music Series is a fun local tradition, and the Calvert Marine Museum’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds from the Waterside Music Series supports CMM’s preservation work and educational efforts for over 20,ooo children each year. This concert gives them the resources they need to continue collecting, preserving, researching and interpreting Southern Maryland’s culture and natural history.
